Trades Hall of Glasgow

Situated in the Merchant City in the heart of Glasgow, the Trades Hall is one of the most important historic buildings in Glasgow.

Designed and built from 1791-1794 by Robert Adam, one of Scotland’s most famous architects, the Trades Hall was built to serve as a public hall and meeting place for the city’s Trades House & 14 Incorporated Crafts.

Today, whether you are planning an exhibition, conference, dinner or meeting the Trades Hall offers a unique and prestigious setting with impressive facilities.

The Grand Hall is an opulent setting for your conference dinner, dance or Scottish Ceilidh and can accommodate up to 230 delegates (seated). The Hall is decorated with a fascinating gilt-painted frieze depicting the Trades of Glasgow and is illuminated by golden chandeliers.

The Saloon, which adjoins the Grand Hall, can hold up to 100 people for receptions or 60 for dinners, making it ideal for your pre-dinner drinks reception or as a breakout room. The Saloon features mahogany-panelled walls inscribed with gilt lettering, stained glass windows, baroque electroliers and a white marble Adam fireplace, ideal as a background for memorable photography.

The North and South Galleries, located on the top floor of the Trades Hall, are two new additions to the suite of space available to hire at the venue. These freshly refurbished conference rooms, in a stripped Adam style, are ideal for presentations, press releases, company meetings and training sessions.

Round tables with white table cloths & chairs with red upholstery are arranged in groups. A lit chandelier hangs from a decoratively plastered ceiling.

The ceiling is also wooden, with gilt edges defining the hexagonal carving. A guilt border of Grecian-style figures runs between the ceiling and picture rail. Light pours through an arched window, (adorned with 2 flags,) and 2 smaller rectangular windows. Round tables and chairs are decorated with gold cloths & details.

  • The interior of a small meeting room at the Glasgow Trades Hall. The room is carpeted and has cream walls with white plaster beading around the ceiling. A large, low window fills much of the far wall and a dark wooden door enters from the right. The room is equipped with many red upholstered chairs, some surround a set of 4 wood-effect tables arranged into a square. A projector, a bin and the edge of a flip chart are all also visible.

It has carved details, including ionic columns either side of the central, 1st floor arched window and a carved coat of arms finial on top. A large verdigris dome and a flagpole also adorn the top of the building. The image is taken from over the road, a level pavement can be seen outside of the building's entrance. Buildings flank the Trades Hall on either side.
