To celebrate Purple Tuesday, an initiative to improve the customer experience for disabled people and their families, we would like to reflect on some of the activity that Glasgow Life has been working on in 2023 to ensure a welcoming experience for our residents and visitors.

We formalised our working relationship with AccessAble, ensuring that the accessibility guides for 200+ Glasgow based venues which feature on their platform will be regularly reviewed and updated.  This will provide a reliable online information service for locals and visitors when they are planning their visit in Glasgow.

Over the summer we arranged for AccessAble to visit and survey a number of city venues which had undergone recent refurbishments or changes in layout.  These changes are now reflected in the online access guides for these venues to ensure the information available is up to date. This includes the Glasgow Science Centre, City Halls, Crowne Plaza, OVO Hydro, Glasgow Club Scotstoun and Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel.

A brand new digital accessibility guide was created for The Burrell Collection, in order to convey the quality access facilities and services which are available at this award winning museum.

The team also hosted an Accessibility workshop for a group of city hotels last month.  Working with VisitScotland, AccessAble and with guest speaker Robin Sheppard of Bespoke Hotels, the session looked at the opportunity and value of the accessible market for overnight stays. Attendees included Virgin, Carlton George, Dakota and The Address.

This adds to the work delivered in 2022 by Glasgow’s Convention Bureau which supported the SEC hotels cluster to develop new access guides and create a new landing page for conference organisers on AccessAble
