Scotland’s Chinese visitor market has gone from strength-to-strength in recent years and with UK arrivals from China forecast to increase by 22% in 2019, this looks set to continue.

In response to demand from Glasgow businesses to be China Ready, earlier this year Scottish Enterprise (SE) held three sector specific China Welcome training sessions, which were attended by 25 city attractions, tours, retailers, restaurants and hotels.

Since then, Scottish Enterprise has developed a China Ready toolkit to support businesses that are interested in the Chinese market.

City maps have been translated into Mandarin and are being distributed to local attractions, transport hubs and hotels to help Chinese visitors make the most of their time in Glasgow and SE has linked up with the Confucius Institute in the city to look at wider translation services that will assist businesses, such as menus and signage.

Additionally, a China Pay Insights Guide has been produced aimed at helping businesses to better understand how to engage in financial transactions with Chinese visitors before, during and after their trip to Glasgow, and more Chinese cultural awareness training sessions, which are free for local businesses to attend, are being programmed for later this year.
