Glasgow has been ranked among the world’s top 10 cities for 2019 and named number one for both friendliness and affordability.
The accolade was awarded to Scotland’s largest city by Time Out magazine following a survey of 34,000 travellers for its ‘Best Cities in the World’ 2019 list.
Glasgow is ranked 8th alongside such illustrious company as New York, Melbourne and Chicago and ahead of major global destinations including Berlin, Paris, Tokyo, Sydney, Barcelona, Singapore, Moscow, Rio, Hong Kong and Beijing.
Time Out’s rankings were created by surveying thousands of people across hundreds of cities worldwide, who answered questions on a range of criteria including culture, community, nightlife and their overall happiness.
One of the factors cities were ranked on was progress, with 55 percent of respondents saying Glasgow had changed for the better over time – higher than nearly any other destination featured.
Time Out said of Glasgow: ‘It’s comfortably the smallest and rainiest city in the top ten, so Glasgow’s lofty ranking may surprise some. But not residents, who love Scotland’s biggest metropolis for its dynamic music, clubbing and food scenes and its daft wit and gregariousness. It’s number one in the world for both friendliness and affordability, and 55 percent say it’s changed for the better – higher than almost anywhere else. If only Glasgow’s weather looked as bright as its future.’
In the UK, London ranked highest in fourth spot, followed by Glasgow, Manchester (15th), Birmingham (24th) and Edinburgh (30th). You can see the full list here.
