Major Events

World-class events play a significant role in the economic, social, health and well-being of the city, bringing communities together, attracting visitors and generating income to support jobs and businesses.  Our calendar of regular events and roster of major international sport events provide a significant platform to promote the city on a global stage.

Glasgow is one of the world’s top five cities for hosting sporting events, the world’s leading Festival and Event’s Destination and Scotland’s cultural and sporting centre, home to the largest annual cultural offer and largest sporting infrastructure outside of London.

That success comes from hugely successful partnerships between public and private sectors and incredible expertise supported by a strong supply chain and an army of dedicated volunteers. Our audiences are passionate and knowledgeable and know their events experience will always be second to none.

Glasgow Life, Glasgow City Council and public and private sector partners, along with Scottish Government and stakeholders in sport and culture are driving forward an events strategy which is led by the Glasgow Events Board and Glasgow Events Industry Forum which, together, will determine the best way to safely realise future events.

Glasgow’s experience as a leader in events delivery will be crucial to our future success, with support and partnership working with funders, events’ rights holders, sports governing bodies and cultural organisations.

Your guide to planning a sustainable event

VisitBritain, in partnership with isla and the GDS Movement have produced a sustainable events guide to help our industry be responsible for embedding key sustainable initiatives into every activity and event.

The guide aims to help you plan more sustainable and lower carbon events with practical tips to plan objectives as well as various action points across all layers of the event cycle.

We encourage all our event partners to consider the specific actions you can take to align your events with more sustainable ambitions.
